PS3 surpasses three million units in UK

According to Sony Computer Entertainment UK, the PlayStation 3 has now surpassed three million units in the UK after jumping the two million mark in only March 2009.

By July 2009 Gfk-Charttrack confirmed that the console had sold 2.2 million units in the country, meaning that the PS3 has sold over 800,000 in the last six months.

Sony commented, via Edge: The £249 price point is enabling us to reach a much broader audience and our line up of software, Heavy Rain, and God of War III – and that’s just in Q1 – should help maintain the momentum.

Although the PS3 sold more than the Xbox 360 worldwide in 2009, the console is still behind Microsoft’s beast in Britain, since the 360 had sold 3.9 million units by July 2009. The Nintendo Wii has now achieved over six million units in the UK.

  1. I feel like that’s really low considering UK is one of the biggest market.

  2. I hear what you’re saying…but surpassing three million in the UK is very good…and it’s sold almost one million in much less time than it did before.

Hardware doesn’t sell any wear near as much as in the US. The UK is one of the biggest markets when it comes to software really.

  3. it’s not bad to say that the UK only has around 60 million people living in it
