The talented developers at SuperBot Entertainment are already hard at work on downloadable content for their recently released brawler: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. Omar Kendall, the game director at SuperBot Entertainment, released some new details of the DLC on the PlayStation Blog. The first three pieces of DLC include two new characters as well as a new stage. Joining the roster is Kat, from the Vita exclusive Gravity Rush, and Emmett Graves from Starhawk. The new stage is inspired by Heavenly Sword and is highlighted by Sony’s futuristic racer, WipEout.

Those who have played Starhawk are probably familiar with the story of Emmett Graves, the main character infected by Rift energy. Noticed immediately in Emmett’s PlayStation All-Stars moveset is the thoughtful treatment of Starhawk’s Build & Battle system. Emmett uses this system to change his loadout on the fly by calling down two distinct bunkers from orbit.

The first bunker changes Emmett’s loadout to an aimable Aerial M.A.W. Rocket Launcher and Tetranite Grenade Launcher, whereas the second bunker features R-Secs Proximity Mines and a Union Shotgun. The formidable Rocket and Grenade Launchers are best suited for long range targets. Both also generate high amounts of AP. While an attractive choice for acquiring Supers, these weapons are hindered by their slow movement.

The Shotgun and Proximity Mines, on the other hand, are fantastic for closer engagements. Tactful placement of Proximity Mines offer opportunities for map control, while swift hit-and-run tactics paired with the shotgun can be devastating at point-blank range. Emmett can also call down turrets as well as a Rift extractor that generates a flow of AP not unlike PaRappa’s boombox. But the centerpiece of Emmett’s weaponry is his Level 3 Super: the transforming Hawk. While the details of Emmett’s Level 1 and 2 Supers are still under wraps, Omar kindly offers some insight on Emmett’s Hawk:

“As the ultimate Level 3 Super, Emmett takes control of a Hawk in mech configuration, and is able to chase down his opponents with terrifying machine gun fire and tricky floating mines. And when all else fails, Emmett can transform the Hawk into flight mode and rain down a final hail of bullets that’s tough to survive.”

Initially, the complexity of juggling Emmett’s multiple loadouts can be daunting. As a result, players may gravitate towards Kat, the second DLC character offered early next year.
