It wasn’t long ago when Sony said that it would be far too difficult to release digital copies of all their PSP titles. Moreover, it would be even more challenging to make such digital releases become available simultaneously. With some new statement’s made by SCEE president Andrew House, that is no longer a spectacle of the future.
“One thing we learnt from PSP, is that we want to have simultaneous delivery in digital and physical for NGP,” House told MCV. “Just to clarify that, all games that appear physically will be made available digitally.” In a gaming world where digital releases are becoming increasingly common, it’s no surprise that we’re beginning to see things like this happen. It is, however, exciting to see it occurring, and the fact that both physical and digital copies of games will be released simultaneously. No more waiting weeks for the digital copy of a game that’s already been released!
Despite the pleasant news, there are still various aspects of the NGP that remain to be confirmed. This includes NGP backwards compatibility, which is by no means going to be a simple task for Sony. Given it will not use UMD format, it is a difficult decision Sony must make to please the PSP community. News on the NGP’s backwards compatibility will surely be released in the near future, so stay tuned for that.
