Bodycount: Console shooter from creators of Black

The next shooter from the creators of PS2 and Xbox shooter Black has been unveiled in the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine.

Developed by Codemasters’ Guildford team, Bodycount is a shooter to keep your eyes on. This is because the Guildford team features several key members from Criterion’s Black team, and is headed by Stuart Black who was co-creator on the FPS that shares his name. Acting as creative director, Black is joined by Tom Gillo (executive producer) from Sony London and Andrew Wilson (senior producer) from Black Rock.

OXM describes Bodycount as “a spectacular and frankly mental first-person shooter” and with Black being infamous for its ‘gun porn,’ Bodycount hopes to up the stakes with “ridiculous levels of destruction.” OXM has now removed their teasing article from the internet, but you’ll find Bodycount featured on the latest issue’s cover which is now going out to subscribers. Here’s a shot of the cover:

Bodycount

Eurogamer previously revealed that the game is being made for “leading console platforms” and will take advantage of Codemasters’ impressive EGO engine, so Bodycount is almost certainly coming to both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Yes XD I was a fan of Black back in the Ps2 days, now since Bodycount is coming to Ps3 and Xbox 360 I can’t wait for this lol
Black was one of the FPS’ that can dominates the COD series, it was an extremely solid FPS

I also got the impression that “leading console platforms” meant that the Wii would be included. Yeah, right :p It is annoying how everyone seems to ignore the Wii as actual competition. Just because developers are totally ignorant of the system doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Interested to see what they mean as a mental first person shooter though.

It could certainly be on the Nintendo Wii as well – but reading “destructible environments” and how good the EGO engine is on the 360 and PS3 – I somehow see this one skipping the Wii.

@PatrickSteen Don’t forget that Call of Duty Reflex was released On the Wii, and its basically like Call of Duty 4 minus the graphics and Ragdoll effects, maybe Body Count on the Wii will be a lower tier title?

  6. why is everyone getting excited about a shooter from the creators of Black it’s not like Black was that good of a game.

  7. I was almost interested and then I saw the screenshot and realized it is yet ANOTHER FPS. Where is all the TPS love? Ironic how I practically hate FPS, practically love TPS and didn’t care for either one last gen. I guess it’s games like MGS4, Uncharted & Uncharted 2 that are to thank for my shift in attention towards TPS and the Camp of Duty franchise that is to thank for my further distaste of FPS.

  8. seems a diferent style…enjoyed black, so i might give it a try

  12. I loved Black. I hope this one is great.

  13. absolutely one to look forward to. Black was one of my favorite FPS of all time on PS2.

    i ment neva had ps2

  16. To be honest, Black was not that great of a game. I was drawn to it however by its style and gun flare. I loved to semi-destructability and massive Hollywoodesque explosions. I didn’t even know I ended the game though, sorta like Army of Two. It was quite boring story wise but enjoyable gameplay. Lets hope they keep what made the gameplay fun and up the stoy telling bit in this project.

  17. Well, I never played Black; and though I heard it was pretty good for its time, it’s pretty hard to get excited over an FPS this gen.

  18. Should be interesting to see what kind of gun porn this game will bring to the table, but with the amount of quality shooters out this gen it’s going to have to be pretty amazing to attract a lot of attention.

  19. never played black but heard good things about it. This game sounds like its going to be one of those run and game type of games so depending on the gameplay might be a miss for me

  20. Well Black had amazing graphic for its time on PS2, but whenever i used to play black, it gave me head aches, even though when i gave away my PS2 to my lil brother i kept only black with me as i was impressed with its graphics and as ppl put it gun porn. hope body count turns out to be black 2 with out head aches
