Today, Activision has officially confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops will be 100% 3D compatible across all platforms upon release on November 9th, 2010. As far as I’m aware, the Xbox 360 currently doesn’t offer 3D gaming, so this is probably only relevant to those that own either a PC or PlayStation 3, but regardless, Activision believes that Black Ops can be the definitive 3D experience.
As an early adopter of a 3DTV, this finally has me excited for Black Ops as I have been eagerly awaiting a truly hardcore title to play in 3D (sorry EyePet, lol). Treyarch Studio’s Mark Lamia had the following to add:
“Development of stereoscopic 3D began as an R&D project, but once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops,” Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia said. “Aiming down the sights of your weapons, flying in helicopters, rappelling down mountains, and moving through highly detailed environments are just some of the awesome experiences you will have in 3D with Black Ops.
“We made sure the experience is seamless for gamers to use with a simple menu option to enable stereoscopic 3D or disable it at any time whether playing in the single player campaign, multiplayer or Zombies.”
How many of you 3DTV owners are now even more excited to pick this bad boy up come November?
