Crytek: Crysis 2 performing better on PS3

Crytek has previously claimed that Crysis 2 will push Sony’s console to its limits and has now revealed that, in its current form, the game is getting “slightly more performance” out of the PS3 in comparison to the Xbox 360.

Crytek’s first console video game is well under-way, and with it comes the studio’s mastering of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since the studio already has the title for best looking PC game under its belt, the team is hoping to impress on console’s with Crysis 2.

Crytek is taking a different route to other multiplatform developers. Rather than simply aiming for cross-platform parity by leading on the PS3, the developer is attempting to push each platform to its limits, achieving the best they possibly can on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The studio’s director of global business development (sounds like a fun job), Carl Jones, explained in an interview with PSM3 that the developer hasn’t had any trouble developing on the PS3 and that at this stage in time, Sony’s console may just have the edge:

“We haven’t found it more difficult to develop for PS3. We’re lucky in the fact that we’ve come to the generation slightly later than other people – the ones who were trying to build the first technology and games were surprised at how different the PS3 was. We took our time and worked out the right way to approach it.

“At the moment, we’re getting slightly more performance from PS3 compared to 360. I’m very confident that products using CryEngine 3 are going to come out as the best looking, or at least in the top three, on every platform.”

Now before the fanboys start dancing around and entering headlocks, we’d expect that there’ll be parity by the time the game launches – and there’ll be negatives and positives on both platforms due to their different architecture. The real question is whether Crysis 2 can compete with our Uncharteds, Killzones and Kratos’s(s).

  1. All I’ve ever heard about Crysis is the ‘astounding’ graphics. I’ve never actually heard if the game is any good or not.

    if it’s a bog-standard shooter, I don’t care how pretty it looks… I’m not interested.

  2. *starts dancing*

  3. Guess I’m getting it on the PS3, assuming I get it at all.

  4. @Paranoimia I’ve heard mixed reviews. Certainly you can get a better shooters with worse graphics.

  5. @TRF Care to share the source of these mixed reviews as i wasn’t aware of any in existence yet 😀

  6. I think this comment flies in the face off the suggestion that PS3 isn’t as powerful as Xbox 360 and is harder to develop for.

I think Crytek are also unintentionally sticking a big finger in the direction of Valve, and rightfully so. The other intention for Valve’s PS3 hatred isn’t its development (they even got EA to port Orange Box let alone try it themselves) but it’s loyalty to MS, much like a pet dog.

Taus how it that saying the Ps3 is easier to develop on? Crytek was just saying that they took their time with learning the architecture of the PS3 unlike Valve.

“The real question is whether Crysis 2 can compete with our Uncharteds, Killzones and Kratos’s(s).

Not a chance Patrick, Not a chance.

  8. ummm duh? i thought this was painfully obvious?

but hopefully crysis 2 turns out to be a kick-ass game, not for me…but for you FPS fiends lol

    everyone needs their fill

  9. In other news, night follows day.

  10. Crysis has amazing gameplay and an interesting story… I think the game will be way better on PS3, but they are saying slightly because they don’t want to alienate 360 gamers

  11. probably getting it..
