Remember back when the PlayStation 3 had full backwards compatibility on all of its SKUs? That was a great time for PS3 owners, wasn’t it? Then the ability was semi-gimped and everyone expected this to be followed by an announcement that PS2 games would be made available for download off the PlayStation Network.
However, as time went on and the announcement never came, it seemed weird that Sony would just shut off a great commodity like that in its consoles. What if the entire decision behind that change was in order to create remastered and HD game packs featuring some of the best titles the PlayStation 2 delivered to gamers and re-selling them to PlayStation 3 owners? We’ve seen it with God of War and now with the upcoming Sly Cooper packs and according to Sony’s President, the company has plans to continue this concept even further.
“Santa Monica Studios had the brilliant idea to upgrade and improve God of War for PS3 with the God of War Collection that we released last year. There were a lot of positive reactions from consumers in doing that, and now we get a lot of suggestions for types of packs they’d like to see.”
With rumors circulating over the last couple of months of a Team ICO collection, it makes you wonder if this was the plan all along. According to Shuhei Yoshida, Sony has plans to look into this matter deeply in order to see what they can provide the consumer along the current path of this generation. That probably means it shouldn’t be long before we do see a Team ICO set and many others.
“We are looking to continue to do these HD conversions,” he said.
