God of War III was bigger in Alpha stages

It’s hard to imagine that God of War III’s universe could have gotten any bigger than it already is. Considering the large scale battles taking place on the bodies of Titans and the vast worlds provided surrounding the great mountain known as Olympus, it just feels as though Kratos couldn’t afford to walk any further than he already is.

However, according to Stig Asmussen, God of War III was quite larger when it was in its Alpha stage of development.

“It was around Alpha, and it was bigger,” he said. “It was too big, and it wasn’t as tight as it could possibly be. And we had to cut some things out, just to make sure that we got the quality across the board.

“We had a creature named Argus who had a hundred eyes, and he was a creature that was designed to have use the Helios head to defeat him,” said Asmussen. “You had to make him close his eyes, and he’d get blinded. You couldn’t defeat him unless he’s blind, and then he’d go into this kind of blind rage, and you had to fight him. He was fun. It was fun.”

“[Argus] was going to be another surprise thing. You know how we had kind of secrets where you could use the Helios head to find them? We were going to have those secrets paced out so you find four or five of those, and you’d get a chest in each one. Then in one, we were going to have basically a reveal where you’d expect to see a chest there — setting up expectations and then breaking it — and out of the darkness this Argus would leap out, and you’d have to fight him.”

To be honest, it would have been really cool if the development team had left in the Argus battle, but we can understand the need to cut content out in order for the game to feel more streamlines down one continues path of epicness — which is what God of War III does. It definitely would be great if they could find some way to incorporate an Argus battle through DLC though without having to play through the entire game again. I think I could take down that bad boy pretty quickly.

That’s one good thing about DLC… having the hope that one day, these cut out features that are discussed may one day make it in anyway for players to enjoy. This is definitely one I’d love to see added eventually.

  3. Uhm… Argus is killed in God of War: Betrayal.

    Did I miss something?

  4. sounds like a good idea, would welcome it as DLC but shame they cut it out. understad why though for space and streamlining purposes

  5. gow3 only got 9s and 10s.
if they had to cut content, so what?

when its good enough, theres no reason to hold it back(YES, im looking at u gt5)

the creature is argus. Spelled differently.

Argos was originally a Greek city. I believe it was highly influential in the pelopponnesian war (Spartans vs Athenians).

Hmmm would’ve been bigger? I think the cut was justified anyways, God of War 3 was smooth, very very smooth in terms of scale and pacing.

in God of War: Betrayal the creature was called Argos, and also your argument is weak. Just because they call him Argus doesn’t mean it’s the same creature. Did you even check the link? It shows a mass-multiple eyed creature, very similar to the description of Stig Asmussen.

So I guess Kratos should be called Cratus then? Because that’s the right term. ”In Greek mythology, Kratos or Cratus (Ancient Greek: Κράτος, English translation: “strength”) was a son of Pallas and Styx, and the personification of strength and power. ”

So it doesn’t matter how it’s spelled, because this is God of War. The developers tend to turn stuff from greece and greek mythology into their own perspective.

I’m not trying to argue, I simply stated facts. Although it could be the same creature it could be similar to medusa. Although she is called medusa, she is a gorgon. I suppose it would be like a cat named Kat.
