There have been various reports that Gran Turismo 5 takes roughly 40+ minutes to install at a paltry 6.4GBs worth of data. Despite these reports, I remain unconvinced that that amount of time is necessary given how much quicker games with 5GBs worth of data install to the HDD. Regardless, Sony has commented on the fact that the game does have the option to install as you play, which should cut down the ability to notice the long drawn out install process.
“GT5 gives users the option of an install,” Sony pointed out. “This makes loading times throughout much faster but is not a requirement when first playing.
“If users choose not to install the data straight away it will do it in stages as news areas, tracks, etc. are accessed during normal gameplay.”
To be honest, I wish all developers chose to do installs in this format if over a certain amount. I understand sometimes installs are necessary, but it does suck to have to wait to play the game — and God forbid there is an update prior to play as well. Sometimes you can be stuck there quite some time before you even get on the sticks.
Gran Turismo 5 releases next week, so it’s only a matter of time until we can all clock that install ourselves!
