Heavy Rain tops UK charts, shortages follow

Heavy Rain has topped both the individual and all formats chart in the UK, bringing in approximately one-hundred-thousand sales in the country alone. The game is Sony’s first British number one since Killzone 2 released this time last year.

Last week was the turn of Sega’s Aliens Vs. Predator, which drops to second place with a 38 per cent reduction in sales. White Knight Chronicles also debuts this week, coming in at number 35 on the all formats chart.

Due to the highly promising sales of Quantic Dream’s debut PS3 title in the UK, shortages have been reported in the country with a SCE UK spokesperson telling MCV:

“We have been extremely delighted with the demand for Heavy Rain. Whilst it isn’t out of stock we are aware that supplies are running low. There is still supply in the chain, but I’m afraid if you’re hunting for a copy it may require a little extra footwork. There will be more stock arriving next week.

“In the meantime we thank everyone for their excitement and their support for this title and also for their patience if they are still seeking a copy.”

  1. Yeah!!!! take that MW2!

  2. I can’t think of a more deserving game right now.

  3. Nice. Especially for a game like this (which is a big “experiment”), it should encourage developers to take more risks and deliver new kind of games.

  4. WOW! higher than mario

Yes XD Heavy Rain is very deserving of this, because not only does it have a fantastic story, the story is totally dependent on you and your actions XD

  6. Good to see this, the 3 hours I’ve played so far have been mostly fantastic. Not a big fan of all the crazy accents, and it took about an hour for me to warm to the game, but other than that it’s been really fascinating stuff.

LOL! Nice…. take that Call Of Duty 6:Modern Warfare 2

  8. nice indeed! but it really doesnt feel that surprising lol

    go QD!

  9. Only played demo, i think it was good. but people are going for the game… am i missing something did sony market this game differently or what.

  10. im glad its selling well i didnt think it would. also glad its a playstation exclusive we have much better games than xbox. ecpecially with granturismo coming out and god of war 3 and modaation racers.

  11. lol wow, shortages? this reminds me of demons souls lol

  12. I guess the UK love themselves a good SP game with an amazing story where over here in the states, it is all about the FPS. Which I personally do not like very much unless it has a badass story which does not happen.

CoD 4 was really good though.

  13. heavy rain is awesome i know why they bought it now so epic

  14. Too many good games already, damn. I think I won’t be getting this one either since it doesn’t really call my attention, but great to see an exclusive get to the top of the charts.

  15. It is a fantastic game and well worth the number one spot. Im very glad people are realising how great this game is by buying it

It’ll be interesting to see NPD sales data once they’re released over here. Hopefully they have been able to keep in with demand in case it’s been selling well but a friend of mine has been having quite a hard time finding a copy at Best Buy. The game is very deserving of its sales and is being received a lot better than it would, from reviews and gamers alike.

  17. i know there are to many games coming out for the year 2010

  18. It’s nice to see such creativity selling well. Because that will convince more devs to be creative.

But I wonder: where was the UK’s love of creativity when Psychonauts was out?!
