Jack Tretton not surprised by September NPD numbers

As the September NPD numbers were drank in by gamers and the media, Jack Tretton made an official appearance on the PlayStation Blog. Tretton noted that PlayStation 3 gamers are about to witness one of the most exciting times to be a PlayStation owner during this upcoming Holiday season. Considering the PlayStation 3 posted November/December-like numbers in September, this is shaping up to be quite the sales run for the company.

Tretton states, “In NPD Group’s September 2009 video game sales data, released today, the PS3 ranked as the top console sold for the month, beating out all our competitors. It was also the only hardware platform to realize an increase of 112% when compared to the same period last year.”

As expected, Tretton made sure to point out exactly why these strong sales figures will continue by bringing up Naughty Dog, developers behind one of the greatest titles ever made, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which released earlier this month. “The Naughty Dog team has delivered a truly visually stunning and immersive game that is clearly only possible on the PS3. It has garnered an average review score of 96 with more than 64 perfect scores. This game promises to be a system seller for PlayStation and we couldn’t be more pleased.”

When you also throw in huge upcoming titles like Ratchet & Clank, Assassin’s Creed II, God of War Collection, Modern Warfare 2 as well as a slew of other titles across all Sony platforms, it’s no surprise that Tretton expects this to be a very exciting time ahead.

“There simply has never been a better time to be part of the PlayStation family and we look forward to providing you with the best entertainment content and experience for many, many years to come.”
