Naught Dog has released a ton of information regarding the sequel to their critically acclaimed third-person shooter Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, including the announcement of a multiplayer beta (which comes as a shock to no one).
The multiplayer beta is launching on June 28th. Much like how Uncharted 2’s beta was included with the game inFAMOUS, Uncharted 3’s beta will come with inFAMOUS 2, releasing on June 7th. In addition, Playstation Plus subscribers will have access to the beta. On July 5th, the beta will go public and be available for everyone to play.
The multiplayer is receiving a huge update. On the customization side of things, the game will allow you to customize your multiplayer avatar as well as your weapons with items like sights, stocks, and mags. Naughty Dog also hinted at customizable emblems, which has become a standard for multiplayer titles and is featured in games like Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Call of Duty: Black Ops.
In addition, new gameplay modes will be available such as a six-player deathmatch with three teams of two and free-for-all. There will also be cinematic moments in the multiplayer comparable to the Operations game type in Killzone 3. Some new gameplay mechanics will be added as well, including sprinting and the ability to kick enemies off of ledges.
Finally, Naughty Dog announced split-screen for the game and noted advantages for Uncharted 3 players gaming in the third dimension, including enhanced depth of field.
Sony also released a trailer for Uncharted 3’s multiplayer. Check it out below:
