Rumor: Ninja Theory’s other game is Devil May Cry

We’ll put this in the WTF corner while we contemplate the logistics of Devil May Cry influencing Heavy Sword influencing Devil May Cry. According to Game Informer, Capcom may have passed their beloved action series over to the creators of PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavenly Sword.

Ninja Theory isn’t only working on the multiplatform game Enslaved, they have another game in development. This was confirmed as far back as 2009, with GamesIndustry.biz revealing:

“The studio is currently working on two unannounced Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles.”

According to a rumour offered by Game Informer magazine, Ninja Theory’s second game is the next Devil May Cry. Page 30 of the mag’s May issue writes:

“Loose Talk has learned that Enslaved isn’t the only game Ninja Theory is working on — we’ve heard that the Cambridge, England developer is being tapped for the next Devil May Cry.

“It is not totally unexpected, however; Capcom has said that although it is shying away from Western developer for new IP, it would continue to utilize them for known franchises, which DMC certainly is.”

We’re not quite sure how we feel about this. Would it still be Devil May Cry if Capcom’s Japanese developer’s weren’t working on it? Sure, Heavenly Sword was a good, but it wasn’t quite the same style of complex combat that Devil May Cry is famous for. Would you like to see the next Devil May Cry developed by Ninja Theory?

[UPDATE] – When asking for comment on this story, Capcom Europe offered a simple “We do not comment on rumour and speculation.”

  1. I am split…on one hand, this may be interesting. On the other, I actually loved Heavenly Sword. Why can’t we get another one of those?…….one more thing i would add is that NINJA THEORY is an experienced PS3 developer so if this news is true, i wonder how would DMC5 on PS3 pans out. Remember HS was also remembered for its great graphics for its time.

  2. Aren’t they working with Nintendo on Metriod Other M as well. They are not even that big of a studio that I know of and they are working on 3 games and 2 of them being huge franchises. I just don’t see how that is possible right now.

Wouldn’t mind them doing a DMC game since the last couple have been going downhill and another take on it might be good for it.

  3. SonyJunkie, The developer working on Metroid Other M is Team Ninja

  4. Maybe it was time for Capcom to give up the series. DMC4 was kinda lousy.

  5. Devil May cry now has hope…

I didn’t like Heavenly sword as much as I would hope. DMC4 is pretty garbage, Loved the first and 3rd ones though. These are just rumours. Besides Ninja Theory is working on another game at the moment right?

  9. I liked DMC4 up until the mid-point, where I played the first-half of the game again in reverse. Lame.

Hoping for a lengthier story this time.

  10. LOL Heavenly Sword is so boring… well judging from the demo. Hasn’t Capcom learned that outsourcing doesn’t work? Bionic Commando… Dark Void… Devil May Cry next??

  11. i didnt like heavenly sword, the combat was too much like dynasty warriors. really disappointing

  12. Oh,God pls let this not be true…..Ninja Theory + DMC would be 100% FAIL…
