For those in European markets wondering what 3G carrier they would have to deal with to get their Vita online while on the go, SCEE finally have an answer. Today they announced that they would be partnering with Vodafone as the preferred 3G provider for the upcoming handheld for users in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and The Netherlands. French Vita users can connect to Vodafone’s partner SFR.
It’s worth noting that unlike SCEA’s exclusive deal with AT&T, European customers won’t be locked to a single 3G provider — SCEE’s James Gallagher took to the comments of the announcement post to confirm that the device wouldn’t be SIM-locked. However, those that choose Vodafone will be rewarded with a voucher that allows them to download WipEout 2048 for free.
Being all the way across the pond here in the United States, I’m unsure if this news is facepalm-worthy as our AT&T announcement was, or something worth celebrating. Care to fill us in, Euro readers?
