One of the most consistent comments that developers seem to throw out there is that they’re using “100% of the PS3’s SPUs and power.” Unfortunately for them (and us), Sony doesn’t believe any developer is remotely close to maxing out the potential that the PS3 has to offer.
SCEE President Andrew House recently spoke during a reader interview on the official PlayStation site and had the following to say:
“As with all consoles, as developers spend more and more time on the platform, they learn more, resulting in an improvement in the quality of the games.
“If you look at PlayStation 2 as an example, it took God of War II eight years into the lifecycle, to fully utilise the potential of the console.”
He went on: “Already with PS3, you can see how games have evolved quickly in the three years since launch, with games such as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, LittleBigPlanet and Heavy Rain really exploring the potential and the power of PlayStation 3.”
I think it is unlikely that any developer has fully utilised the full potential of PS3 yet, but they are getting much closer everyday.”
This means that us, as gamers, have a lot to look forward to this generation despite already being nearly halfway through its life cycle. It’s crazy to think of what could potentially be down the pipeline.
i think killzone 3 will be the first.
with 3d support, improved graphics and environments 10 times as large as KZ2, it has to.
Ah, but what if it could go even further
They should rename the playstation the potentialstation!
The sky is the limit, obviously.
Umm.. or course? The developers will continue to develop ways to make better use of the hardware and software capabilities of the Ps3.
Crysis 2!
Crysis2, KZ3, and Granturismo 5 will.
Only Sony’s ICE team will be the first use the full potential of the PS3!
I dun care who gets to the 100% first but I really wanna see how it turns out =D
