The Last Guardian likely at TGS, will release early 2011

The Last Guardian, Team Ico’s third game and first PS3 entry, was missing from E3. Without Trico stealing our hearts there seemed to be a big hole at E3. Sure, Twisted Metal, Infamous 2 and Killzone 3 were nice – but we were yearning for some Team Ico love.

We’ve known The Last Guardian was a 2011 title for some time, but we had hoped that it would have got its first gameplay outing at this year’s E3. It turns out that Sony may be saving the game for the Tokyo Games Show.

Sony’s Ron Eagle replied to a question on why the game was not at last week’s E3:

“There’s more dates on the calendar than just E3. More events. Read into that what you will,” Eagle told 1up. “There’s nothing official that we can tell you other than The Last Guardian continues in production and we can’t wait to show you what Ueda-San has been up to. The game looks fantastic.”

Eagle further explained that pulling the game from E3 was strategic – it’s well on target. In fact, we’d predict that The Last Guardian will be out around the same time as Infamous 2; early 2011.

“We’re going to ship a game when we feel it’s ready. When it’s fully baked and when it’s ready,” Eagle added. “And with everything else that we’re showing at this show, we announced a million different things at this show, we just didn’t feel that the timing was right to show that product at this show. We’re going to show it when it’s ready, and when we think that it’s worthy to show based on everything else that that developer has done.”

It’s going to be good then, we have no doubts.
