These Shooters will Rape your Wallet In 2011 and 2012

Five months into 2011 and we’ve already been graced with first person shooter spectacles such as Killzone 3, Crysis 2, and Homefront. Now taking a look into the future, what can FPS fanatics get their hands on that will not only satisfy their need to kill virtual friends, but revolutionize the first person shooter genre as we know it.

We’ve compiled a list of upcoming FPS titles that range from Resistance 3 to next year’s Bioshock Infinite, highlighting what makes these games great and why you should keep a keen eye on them until release. The lists order isn’t of importance as we value and look forward to each of these titles individually, having reasons for for being excited for all.

Rage

Now if you think Brink looks good, wait until you get your hands on Rage, id Software’s newest IP using their latest Tech 5 Engine technology. The game is yet another post-apocalyptic title in which the player emerges from an underground cryogenic keep, finding the surface of the earth to be a desert wasteland littered with mutants and thugs.

While much of the game is a first-person shooter, a large part of the game also focuses on car combat and customization. It seems fitting in this road-warrior like world that players will need to not only combat bandits, but also watch themselves on the road as giant monsters and car thieves inhabit the open wildnress.

Rage is set to release September 13 in US, September 16 in Europe.

Battlefield 3

If there is one title that can dethrone the Call of Duty series, it will be Battlefield 3. Developed by DICE and published by EA, Battlefield 3 is said to be a next gen game developed for current gen platforms.

Featuring some of the most realistic damage modeling yet, DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine can depict an entire seven story building crumble due to an in-game earthquake, bringing it to nothing but dust and debris. Also, DICE is utilizing EA’s ANT animation system, used in such titles as FIFA, which will allow for more realistic transitions between animations.

According to the game’s official website, those who pre-order the title receive the first DLC pack “Back to Karkland” for free, including re-mastered Battlefield 2 favorites Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman and the Sharqi Peninsula. Not much else has been released about Battlefield 3, however a beta is expected to hit the PC in June, October for PS3 and Xbox 360 users.

Bioshock Infinite

As the third game in the Bioshock series, Bioshock Infinite is neither a prequel or sequel, although features many the series gameplay concepts and themes. Taking place on what was to be a flying utopia, a world’s fair that traveled the skies. Now lies in ruin, a floating battleground.

Bioshock Infinite will feature a wide array of weaponry, including vigors and nostrums (similar to Bioshock’s plasmids and tonics) granting the player special abilities from telekinesis and animal control to buffing the players strength and damage resistance.

The game won’t be out until 2012, so there is still plenty of time for new details and information to be released on the title. Be sure to keep an eye on this one as we delve further into the year.

Interstellar Marines

Developed by ZeroPoint Software, Interstellar Marines is a AAA first person shooter utilizing a new type of funding and marketing scheme, which frees the developer of the constraints of using a large publisher. Known as AAA Indie, ZeroPoint Software receives funds from personal investors and the gaming community.

The game has been in development since 2005, and just a few months ago the developers released a new gameplay trailer giving fans a look at their visionary new FPS title. Entitled “Will you believe,” Interstellar Marines looks to shake things up a bit in the genre, giving players not only a realistic and detailed sci-fi FPS experience, but being one of the first developers to bring a AAA title to gamers without the need of a mega publisher like EA or Activision.

Prey 2

Announced shortly after the original’s release, Prey 2 takes the series in a whole new direction, featuring an open world built using a heavily modified version of id’s Tech 4 engine.

“Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world,” said Human Head Studios Chris Rhinehart.

Not much else is known about the title as it’s scheduled to release sometime in 2012. The original Prey featured some mind bending level design, so we expect Prey 2 to feature some unique aspects outside of being a regular FPS.

Duke Nukem Forever

After being in development hell for fourteen years, the Duke is finally returning. Why does this make our list? It’s fucking Duke Nukem. Strippers, vulgar humor, and the ability to shrink and stomp on mutant pigs dressed as cops are just a few of the reasons we love Duke Nukem. This game is rated Mature for almost every option the ESRB has available.

Duke Nukem Forever’s development is being finished up by Gearbox Software and is set to hit stores June 10 in Europe, June 14 in North America.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Half RPG and half FPS, Deus Ex: Human Revolution takes player customization to a whole new level, allowing players to not only choose weapon load-outs and ammunition types, but can choose from mechanical augmentations to their body including four types; Combat, Stealth, Technology and Social.

Utilizing certain augmentations such as stealth and social, players can make it through the entire game without having to end a single soul, other than bosses.

The game also features an amazing futuristic sci-fi storyline and world, drawing inspiration from movies like Blade Runner, Johnny Mnemonic, and Robocop. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a prequel to the series, releasing August 23 in the US, August 26 in Europe.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Activision has just recently revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as anticipated for another year of Call of Duty, however with a new team leading the title, Slegehammer along with help from Raven Software (Wolfenstein), fans are hoping the game may see some new exciting dynamics added to the series that was quickly becoming stale.

    It’s on page 2.

  3. Lol, you’ve got modern warfare 3 on here but no gears of war 3??
I’m sorry, but no CoD game will ever rape my wallet again. That stopped with black ops.

    • Eh, sorry. I just read the first paragraph and it clearly states FPS games. But I still hold to my statement about CoD games’ decline. Also, homefront sucked balls.

I’m definitely looking forward to Gears of War 3! 😉 The first two titles were great, except for when people started using bugs and map hacks to cheat online.

I’ve been watching a lot of the Gears 3 beta footage and am looking forward to seeing more on the title at E3.

  5. why would they rape my wallet?

i can rent them so it means I’m the one raping the developer’s ass and publishers, meaning its a gangbang.

  6. Never heard of Interstellar Marines, pretty cool stuff. I’ll be getting a lot of these titles no doubt.

Shark headed aliens. Plus the tech for an indie studio is pretty impressive. I think they’re best bet for consoles is to release it on the PSN and XBLA. Cuts having to deal with retail.

      • Correction: the sharks are escaped experiments. The actual alien threat has only been seen once, and that was an early piece of concept art.

And as for PSN and XBLA, they would like to put it up on there, but it’s not that likely ATM. Just a PC release for now.

I be a person who invested in it so I know heh.

        • Thank you for info. Interstellar Marines has been a game that I’ve supported for years. Covered it a few times back when I wrote for PSU. It would be great if we can ever see a release on PSN/XBLA. Single-player could be episodic if they wanted, and multiplayer could be the core download.

  7. What about Gears of War 3? Seriously.

  8. HAHA that ‘IM’ game looks PROPER gay!! Hahahah, just like republican space rangers from GTA, hahahaha so gay like Halo! And for ALL u xbot retards talking about GEARs – LISTEN UP RETARDS; Gears is not a FPS like the rest of the games mentioned!

  9. Gotta love when all the video boxes are white. Good grief people lets use suitable code..

I am not going to buy Shitty COD games any more. They haven’t done crap to the engine except for minor visual effects. Meanwhile DICE has done the near impossible with their engine.

COD is just weak anyone who buys it is wrapped up in Marketing Fluff.

  11. What they didn’t say about IM is their ultimate motive of immersion into the experience. I.e. sounds on the other side of the wall won’t just be reduced in volume; if there’s a open door over there, it’ll bounce out of it. If a real person is talking on their mic on the other side of a door, without their mask/radio on, their talking is muffled.

Oh, and no damned pew-pew lasers, but neither are there copy-pasted RL weapons.
