Ueda: 3D gives Ico/SOTC more juice

It’s highly likely that the re-release of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus was the most requested and anticipated title to be confirmed at Tokyo Game Show 2010 this week. After all, fans of the studio and those who haven’t even touched the games were calling for the collection to be made on a weekly basis since the rumors hit the industry a couple of months ago. Now, we’re looking not only at the confirmation of these titles being a reality, but Ueda has revealed that each will be 3D compatible and that it will give each a kick of juice like a ballplayer on steroids.

Of course, Ueda also confirms with the Official EU Blog that you won’t need 3D support to truly enjoy either title as both were built with depth and solid environments already, but he isn’t dismissing the new technology either.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to revisit on PS3 and I’m very happy to be able to accomplish this with even higher production values,” said Ueda. “I’m delighted with how it has turned out.

“Unfortunately, unlike the movie industry, videogames sometimes get forgotten when people move onto the next generation, so this is a great opportunity to make these games accessible to both fans of the series and to a new audience.

“I’d like to clarify that 3D is not essential to enjoy these experience – the HD element in itself brings a lot of life to the games. However, 3D will bring even more.

“Both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus were designed with a huge depth of field in mind, demonstrated through the vast landscapes. Although 3D technology wasn’t at the point that it is now, it was certainly something we considered. Now that the technology allows it, it gives the product even more ‘juice’ so to speak. I’ve already experienced this throughout the trial build and was overwhelmed with the results.

“That’s how much the 3D element brings to the title.”

With the slate of 3D titles coming out over the course of the next year continually growing, does your interest in purchasing one of these 3DTV sets grow as well? I know I was a skeptic at first before I had the chance to check it out, but I’ve been sold ever since. Now that you can play ICO and SOTC in 3D though, I’m anticipating this re-release even more than before!

Yaaaaa hooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now I can play these games without having to buy a PS2.

  2. If 3D wouldn’t ruin the eyes alot maybe I would check it out. Also I’m not sure if I can experience the 3D effect since my sight is pretty bad. Every time I tested 3D in the stores it seems like there’s no 3D effect, maybe I’m doing something wrong.
