Platinum Games: Vanquish isn’t a regular shooter

Platinum Games (proud non-porter for Bayonetta) and SEGA are proud to announce that their upcoming shooter, Vanquish, isn’t just your regular old shooter. In fact, it’s going to be a brand new take on the shooter genre entirely.

According to Shinji Mikami in the latest issue of PlayStation Magazine:

“In making Vanquish, I wanted to create a game that was speedier and more acrobatic than other shooters,” he said. “It’s a brand new kind of shooting game that’s incredibly tense.”

Mikami adds: “I wanted to make a shooter where the player is active – taking people on. I didn’t want the game to be like other third-person action titles, where people are just trying to survive, taking pot-shots at enemies from behind cover. So it is this aggression and active spirit that I wanted to capture with Vanquish”

No offense to Mikami, but the description he’s giving can be used to describe pretty much 50% of the shooters available on the market. Considering the poor end result of Bayonetta on the PlayStation 3, it’s going to be hard for PS3 owners to justify continuing to support a title from Platinum Games. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out.

  1. PS3 is the lead platform . And from the screenshots of gameplay it does look very different from other shooters .

  2. EVERY developer says that their game isn’t a regular game of that genre. Even Visceral Games tried to pass of Dante’s Inferno as a completely unique experience.

Will be keeping my eye out for this one, because it does look good, even if it’s not all that unique.

Agreed, but seriously they are just going to do a Sega Port of the Ps3 and look how Bayonetta turned out, Its probably going to have the same problems that Bayonetta had. But TRF is right, they are just saying this to promote more of their game.

  4. ^^^ PS3 IS THE LEAD PLATFORM jeez

Bayonetta’s pretty decent on the PS3 following the Sony patch and still an extremely good game. Platinum Games are bringing the quality.

Yeah Bayonetta is only Decent, but I had way more fun playing it on the 360, the Sony Patch still didn’t make the game equal to the 360 at all. It just inproved things just a little.

Also Blinky , the Wii is the Leading Console right now, then its the 360, Ps3 is just 1, 2 steps behind 360 in sales. Ps3 is leading in Hardware though XD

  7. Dude I mean the PS3 is the console they are developing THIS game on and are PORTING it over to the 360 yeesh

  8. meh nothing interesting

Speedier and more acrobatic? Sounds like P.N.03 for the GameCube. Interesting take on the whole shooting genre but still painfully repetitive at times. It has a lot of potential and if it can offer a similar experience to P.N.03 but a more polished experience, then I’m all for it. And considering that it was from Capcom, I wonder if any team members from them transferred over to Platinum Games.

@BlinkyEC And where has that been confirmed? The game had only been revealed to be PS3 and Xbox 360 in Famitsu. Nowhere has it been said the PS3 is the lead platform as far as I’m aware. And very doubtful for Platinum Games (a small studio) to move from the 360 to the PS3 in this way.

  11. Look in it’s thread on the forum I mentioned it in a post and linked to the article . I think Nick did too .

  12. Moocows111111 March 9, 2010 @ 16:29

@Blinky, you should’ve put the link in the comments section becuase not everybody goes to the forums.

  13. Then that’s their fault .

Confirmation PS3 is lead platform for Vanquish: http://www.playstationuniversity.com/forum/showpost.php?p=89352&postcount=32 Well spotted.

  15. No problem . Platinum Games are good devs but people seem to think otherwise just because of one bad port .

  16. Patrick Steen March 9, 2010 @ 16:47

BTW he appears to be talking about third-person shooters…which have of late been cover based.

  17. As a Platinum Games project, I expect this to be visually striking, fun to play, and for it to sell about 50,000 copies.

  18. yeah yeah yeah, thats what they all say, i’ll believe it when i c it.

  19. From the looks of it, it seems like that shooter (I can’t remember the name) featuring a lady in a hi tech suit with some kick ass glasses, shooting all over a futuristic setting in the Gamecube.

  20. @Thorzilla – Here it is:

  22. this is plat games last chance.

    god of war 3
    just saying ^^

  23. Platinum Games better put 110% in this game and not give another crappy port like Bayonetta.

  24. VofEscaflowne March 10, 2010 @ 10:23

    @ImLastBoss

Sega ported it, not Platinum Games. It was also patched so the load times are not as bad since you can now install the game.

  25. sure hope so, i think the fps genra its getting too repetitif

  26. Good to know that PS3 is lead platform other wise i wouldn’t even had touched it with a stick. By the looks of the article screenshot it seems to be a Halo but with different color scheme
