It was a bit of a surprise in 2010 to hear that 2K Games was not only relaunching the classic PC franchise XCOM, but were retooling the game from a strategy game into a first-person shooter. The game had an impressive showing this year at E3, and was slated for release on March 6, 2012.
That is no longer the case, unfortunately.
Take-Two Interactive, 2K Games’ parent company, sent out a press release today, and buried near the bottom of a release schedule within was XCOM, with a new tentative release date of “Fiscal Year 2013.” Take-Two’s fiscal year begins in April, so the delay can be as short as a few weeks, or as long as the following March.
The game is slated for eventual release on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
