Zipper Interactive announces SOCOM 4 [Trailer Added]

Zipper Interactive and Sony has just announced the development of SOCOM 4 on the Official US Blog. As many of you know, Zipper Interactive is the development team behind the original installments of the SOCOM franchise (not responsible for Confrontation) and one of the latest PlayStation 3 exclusives, M.A.G.

The plot of the game isn’t given out too clearly, but it does lay out what you can expect to face through your next war torn adventure of SOCOM:

“Though we’ll be revealing the answers to all these questions and plenty more throughout 2010, we don’t want to leave you completely in the dark, so what we will tell you is that a militant revolutionary has unexpectedly seized control in an important South Asian country. As the Ops Com, your mission is to command an elite five-man squad charged with stopping his aggressive agenda before it’s too late. In only six days, you must lead your team through a hostile jungle and urban environments against an army of well-armed rebel insurgents that completely outnumber you.”

Also, several online details have been dropped as well:

“Players will also be able to enjoy a 32-person multiplayer mode that boasts more Special Forces units than ever before!”

Unlike both SOCOM: Confrontation and M.A.G., SOCOM 4 will include a single-player campaign with fourteen missions, resulting in around twelve hours of play. It will take place in South East Asia, featuring destructible environments within jungles, mountains and cities. The game will release this Fall. Oh and this is the Sony exclusive announcement, so expect a trailer on GTTV later today. Check out some killer screens from the game below.

So is this what will be shown on tonight’s GTTV?

  2. It better be then confruntation

  3. Yeah.

  4. no what a waste

  5. That’s disappointing. I was expecting a sequel to a game I actually cared about. 🙁

  6. Dreamer_Lion March 4, 2010 @ 14:37

Damn, should’ve thought about this sooner (In regards to the Gttv thing). I don’t like SOCOM that much but the screens look badass.

  7. Patrick Steen March 4, 2010 @ 14:47

Confrontation wasn’t made by Zipper so hopes should be high – plus this will have a single-player (finally)

  8. kind of disappointing but the game is looking good from the screen shots and destructible environmnents sounds kwl

  9. 12 hours long single player? A FPS probably worth to get in other words.

  10. Moocows111111 March 4, 2010 @ 15:19

Yes this is kinda of Disappointing, we get barrages and barrages of Modern Warfare like games, First, Bad company then Medal of Honour then A new Socom Games, thats just great, its going to be like the surges of WW2 games again.

  11. Great., another warfare game… Like we didn’t get enough of those already.

  12. this is dumb, what a wast of time. we already got a game from zipper MAG, which the game is dong fine right now

  13. Another socom disappointing game for sure, why do they even try?

  14. i’m so disappointed. or maybe sony has another secret game up their sleves. probably just getting my hopes up.

  15. If Socom 4 is close to what Socom 2 was, could be a great game.

  16. I was hoping for something else. Admittedly, I know don’t know what, but something else. At least this will be better than Confrontation.

  17. Uh Hello!!! Well anyways, to clear things up with some people thinking FPS, SOCOM has always been a Third person Tactical shooter.

  18. Please Zipper! Use the whole power of the Mighty Cell!

“Uh Hello!!! Well anyways, to clear things up with some people thinking FPS, SOCOM has always been a Third person Tactical shooter.”

Noone said that it was a FPS.

Its just that out of all the games that could have been announced, it had to be one from the Socom series, they were good up until Socom 2 but then it just went downhill from there.

  20. wow how disappointing :\

THIs is the big news? meh

  21. Well indeed it is a big news (not that big) i was disappointed when i learned that zipper was not developing Confrontation and was not really happy with last installment being online only. but now zipper is back behind the seat and in charge of everything behind New Socom, 12 hours plus single player campaign destructible environments, with good looking screenshot, how this can be not a big news.

  22. xXGORILLAGATORXx March 4, 2010 @ 23:15

HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE WORTH IT

  23. xXGORILLAGATORXx March 4, 2010 @ 23:17

    MRC UP FRONT

  24. TheCodeNameisSnake March 5, 2010 @ 00:21

thanx alot Keighley, this is just boner shattering.

  25. They showed nothing in the Trailer. The screenshots are much better than what the trailer showed off.

  26. this messed up everything man we better see resistance 3 at E3

  27. Dreamer_Lion March 5, 2010 @ 11:35

    @Sonyjunkie: Yeah, pretty much lol.

It tould you guys, Gttv has the lamest trailers of them all. In fact, if it weren’t for the name at the end of the trailer it would just look like any other generic new shooter. . . .

  28. Trailer looks interesting but i need to see gameplay before I can make a fair judgement on the game. I like tactical games so if it has a co-ordinated approach with the seals then I will love it compared to run and gun cod games.

  29. “Noone said that it was a FPS.

Actually comment #10 said it was a FPS.

Anyways, I was looking forward to another Twisted Metal but meh.

  31. 30NIGHTCRAWLER30 March 6, 2010 @ 23:16

Hope its good, like Socom 2. but looks disappointing.

  32. Kind of a weak trailer, even for a teaser. Hopefully we get to see something more exciting at E3.

  33. 30NIGHTCRAWLER30 March 7, 2010 @ 20:45

Can’t wait to see some gameplay.
