NPD June: PS3 hardware sales up 85%

The Xbox 360 is this month’s big winner in the US, with NPD results showing an impressive 88% year-on-year increase for the console. Naturally, it was all due to Microsoft’s new slim/short model, spurring sales on its home turf.

But the PlayStation 3 also did well, selling over 300,000 units – representing an 85% increase in sales compared to the same time last year. Sony has made comment that much of this was due to the company sorting out PS3 shortages, with Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA, commenting:

“With a healthy flow of PS3s back in the channel, and eleven months of PS3’s consecutive growth behind us, we’re confident the PS3 will become the main entertainment hub for many new consumers this year and provide countless reasons to congregate in the living room.”

The Nintendo Wii saw a 17% increase, with DS and PSP sales being down for the year. You can find the full hardware and software results below:
