Capcom: “New Resident Evil games are spin-offs”

In a statement that would make any fan of any franchise groan, Capcom has announced that any title in the upcoming Resident Evil franchise will be nothing more than a spin-off of the series. Unfortunately for gamers, Capcom has no desire to release an official Resident Evil 6 or 7, which may not be such a bad thing considering how honestly poor Resident Evil 5 is.

This statement comes on the heels of Capcom ramping up production on Resident Evil titles due to the fact that it usually takes four years of development between each game. Sadly, this might lead tot he spin-off titles being rushed and poorly designed — think Tomb Raider franchise.

Speaking with NowGamer, Capcom had the following to say:

“You can figure this one out really. These new Resident Evil games won’t be Resident Evil 6 or Resident Evil 7 or anything like that. They will be spin-off titles.”

How do you feel about this in particular? Do you think it’s going to be beneficial to gamers to have to put up with a bunch of spin-off titles or do you think it’s nothing more than a money milking technique that other popular franchises have decided to undertake as well?

  1. Well I really, really, really loved RE5. Platinumed it and still play it with some friends to date. As long as they’re that good, I’m in.

  2. Yeah what the hell? RE5 was freaking great lmao. But definitely bad news, kinda weird they’re just saying it in the open like that..

  3. I liked RE5, and I want to see RE6. If the spin-offs are good, I won’t mind, I just don’t want a bunch of on-rails shooters for the Wii. Capcom needs to throw something to the 360/PS3 crowd.
