Sony: US holds 40% of worldwide PSN accounts

According to numbers released by Sony (and further detailed by Famitsu), the US holds over 40% of the 77 million worldwide registered PlayStation Network accounts.

Granted some accounts are fake, with users holding multiple accounts, spanning various regions (UK, Japan, US, etc), but the following breakdown will give you an idea of where a majority of the online users reside. (Joystiq / Source)

– USA: 31,140,307 accounts
– Great Britain: 9,296,317 accounts
– Japan: 7,427,038 accounts
– France: 4,701,424 accounts
– Canada: 3,524,227 accounts
– Germany: 3,233,800 accounts
– Spain: 2,982,592 accounts
– Australia: 1,560,791 accounts
– Italy: 1,473,187 accounts
– Netherlands: 1,135,134 accounts

With the recent PSN outage it will be interesting to see how active users are when the service goes back online later this week. Keep in mind the “Welcome Back” package Sony is offering to users as compensation for the downtime.
