Battlefield 3 is among some of the more visually stunning first-person shooters to be coming out this year. According to an interview with Nvidia’s GeForce.com, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach claims that when EA and DICE set out to create Battlefield 3, PC would be the lead platform, as consoles no longer hold the throne for hardware and power.
“PCs are way more powerful than the consoles today and there are actually almost zero games out there that actually use the benefits of this,” Bach said.
“So for our target of what we want to hit, we are now using the more powerful platform to try and prove what we see gaming being in the future rather than using the lowest common denominator, instead of developing it for the consoles and then just adding higher resolution textures and anti-aliasing for the PC version. We’re do it the other way around, we start with the highest-end technology that we can come up with and then scale it back to the consoles.”

Bach assures console buyers that by building the most powerful platform on PC, DICE can still provide a riveting experience on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
“In theory you could argue that you’re building it for a more powerful platform and that it will look crappy on consoles. That’s not the case because when you build the target high, you can then pick and choose from the target and ask what actually creates this picture and then pick the best things from that and turn that into your console solution,” he added.
EA has yet to show gameplay footage of the console versions, however DICE is preparing a new 12min gameplay video for Battlefield 3 as soon as the official Facebook page reaches 1 million “Likes” or dawn breaks Monday. Battlefield 3 is set to release later this year.

Wait what? When did the consoles ever “hold the throne”?
Even the military was using PS3s for cluster processing.
