Jaffe understands DLC problems

Have you ever been irritated by the fact that some developers or publishers start discussing plans for downloadable content while a game is being developed? David Jaffe has met this problem head-on as certain gamers have targeted him for attack after he discussed the desire to create DLC for Twisted Metal before development had finished.

Of course, Jaffe understands why gamers have this opinion, but he feels it’s ridiculous to believe and think that creators of games aren’t going to discuss something until after a title is finished or released. After all, you have to plan out a strategy at some point.

“Oh lord man, then those people need to chill the f*ck out. We DO want DLC and we HAVE talked about what it could be. Deal with it. We have NOT begun to work on it nor will we for a while. If the retail launch game u buy does not meet your standards THEN players have every right to be mad. They SHOULD be mad. But we ARE also talking about DLC.”

He also added: “TOTALLY want to do DLC but not to make up for what some folks see as the ‘weakness’ of only 3 characters. Very happy w/the value of our SP campaign. HOWEVER- as I’ve said- if we can we will try to address some of the fan concerns we’ve heard about that issue.”

Jaffe has never shied away from divulging his feelings about a particular issue, so this outburst isn’t exactly uncommon. What is your stance on DLC and how publishers decide to focus on it?

  1. Makes sense. If the game has all the content it needs to satisfy people, and that was promised, then it shouldn’t be an issue.

  2. Jaffe is completely right. I don’t like it when devs work on DLC alongside the game, but discussing it is harmless.

  3. DLC, WE TALKIN’ ‘BOUT DLC?! NOTA GAME, NOTA GAME, WE TALKIN’ ‘BOUT DLC, MAN! WHAT ARE WE TALKIN’ ‘BOUT? WE TALKIN’ DLC, MAN, WE AIN’T TALKIN’ ‘BOUT THE GAME. NOT THE ACTUAL GAME THAT MATTERS. WE TALKIN’ ‘BOUT DLC! (ala Allen Iverson)
