MGS4 becomes best selling PS3 exclusive at over 5 million

The highest selling PlayStation 3 exclusive used to be Gran Turismo 5 Prologue…yes, Prologue. With sales last reported at 4.65 million, you now know the importance of Gran Turismo 5’s full release to Sony and the PS3.

Now Kojima Production’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has over taken Polyphony Digital’s preview output, with Konami reporting a further 0.65 million sales in 2009 (April-December) to the game’s 2008 4.50 million sales. That puts Solid Snake’s final story at 5.15 million sold worldwide.

This sales feat also means that the PS3 exclusive has sold more than the PS2’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance (before re-releases) which stands around 4 million. The game still sits behind the original Meta Gear Solid’s 6 million and Metal Gear Solid 2’s approximate 7 million.

  1. Now they should reward us with Trophies! =)

  2. Good for Konami, but I would have expected it to sell more then 0.65 mil last year. With the Slim and the new price cut, it should have sold at least 1mil.

  3. I agree with 1 they should do it in celebration !

  4. Kratos, that was for a 9 month period from April through to December 2009.

  5. 5.15 million is some achievement and im sure that figure will double over time.

  8. Give us throphies, and I’ll buy it again!

  9. It does surprise me to this day why konami hasn’t added trophy support to MGS4 and if memory serves me right did kojima veto this idea himself?
