Sodium One turns PlayStation Home into MMO Paradise

It may sound foolish to some that Sony’s social networking platform, Home, is giving users the opportunity to experience a futuristic MMO program within its application, but to others it should be seen as something that is a bit overdue. It’s no secret that Home has been lacking in the substantial updates department and it looks as though Sony is trying to correct it with the newest installment into the software with Sodium One.

Sodium One is a futuristic MMO experience that allows users to teleport themselves to a different level of reality while also taking part in new mini-games and Home objectives. S1 is lead by an A.I. component named “VICKIE” and she will let you know what needs to be done in order to progress through this newly built space of Home.

“The launch of PlayStation Home in 2008 pioneered new ground in interactive entertainment and, since then, increasing support and enthusiasm from our PS3 user and game publisher communities have helped to make this a tremendous first year for the platform,” said Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing and PlayStation Network, SCEA. “Today we further push the envelope with the launch of PlayStation Home’s Sodium — an evolving space that leverages the incredible computing power of PS3 to deliver truly unique, and visually stunning social gaming experiences that you won’t find on any other platform.”

Salt Shooter is the first mini-game up for play and though some of the levels in the game are free to play, Sony is charging for the ability to play beyond those initial levels.

To be honest, this entire process just seems like another reason to charge micro-transactions to the PlayStation community. It may seem new and exciting at first, but it’s just another way for Sony to dig into your pockets. I probably wouldn’t care much about this if it wasn’t for the fact that Sony does have plans to eventually charge for a premium portion of its online services. If that’s the case, small micro-transactions like this have no place in the online functionality of the network.

Well, Home is rather useless to me. I’ll probably get some input from people who bought it to decide if I myself will buy it. I think I used Home maybe once or twice, then never touched it again.

  5. A mediocre looking online shooter that allows you to get better by paying for upgrades. Pass.

  6. I think you are right. But you should cover more on this topic.
