Over the past couple of years the television industry and Sony with the PS3 has really started to make a push towards getting 3D content into the consumer’s homes. Sony has now said that in a few years they believe that 3D could become the norm.
Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Ray Maguire told The Guardian.
“We’re seeing 3D as a staple part of the cinema experience now and that will transfer into the home – as it’s already started to do,”
“It’s estimated that by 2014, 40 per cent of homes in the UK will have a 3D-capable device, whether that’s a laptop, a TV or something else.
When talking about the migration into 3D TVs Maguire had to say:
“Soon, when people begin to replace their flatscreen televisions, they will probably buy one that just happens to have 3D capabilities built in. That opens up an environment for content providers to invest more money into 3D material.
When talking specifically about the PS3 and its 3D push Maguire stated:
“Sony has a lot more games coming in 3D this year, and it does enrich the experience. It’ll be a reasonably long haul to get there, but I think it could become the norm.”
Sony has already implemented 3D into a number of their big titles like Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5, and soon Uncharted 3 amongst others. So do you believe we will be seeing 3D in everyone’s house in a few years?

For me the TV price itself has to go down. I am only 18 years old and I can’t afford a 1700 dollar TV just for one effect. I have no problem with the technology itself, I just need it to be refined (no glasses)I would love to play Killzone and Uncharted in 3D but it hasn’t penetrated the mass market enough IMO. I believe the market awareness is there, I just don’t know if that is what an economically unstable world wants right now.
couldn’t imagine playing killzone 3 without 3d. it adds a layer of depth that, combined with 5.1 audio, is truly awesome.
im cina sceptical
example: hd gaming and movies is truly an incredible experience and totaly worth selling youre kidney for, but only when you hawe a 2M : 1 or more color ratio, 120 or more hz, native 1080p (NOT 1080i), 5.1 ss, etc etc sadly only 1 or 2 dewelopers make high quality hd tvs, the rest just wana jupm into the market that others created and make as much dirty money as posible, as a result many people buy dvd to watch on their hd tv cuz theire so caled hd tv is not even capable of giving them the right audio stereo experience
so i fear greedy dewelopers are ewentualy gona trick sonys 3dhd market into buying an expencive gimic
so while killzone3 on a sony 3d tv vhith 5.1 ss, is fucking amasing, sadly noone is gona experience the real deal
thats what i fink
