In a recent interview with G4TV, Naughty Dog’s Co-President, Evan Wells, discussed how he’d love to continue working on PlayStation 3 for the next five to six years.

Wells also indicated that the development team at Naughty Dog doesn’t feel limited by the hardware and that the team can definitely get more out of the cell processor. It sounds almost as though Uncharted 2 is only scratching the surface of the PlayStation 3’s capabilities.

“We’re getting comfortable [with the PS3],” he said. “We’re not itching for new hardware. I would love to keep working on the PlayStation [3] for 5 or 6 more years. I think there’s still a lot to get out of it. We made a very big advancement between the first [Uncharted] and the second game, we’re really tapping into the Cell processor, but there’s more there.

“We’re not really feeling limited by the hardware, it’s more about the hours of the day and how quickly we want to get the next game out.

“It really feels that sometimes it’s this bottomless pit of processing power, you find the right kind of job for it and it can just churn through those things so fast, which really helps with a lot of our rendering and post-processing effects,” he said.

I’d like to say that I’m surprised to hear how much more the Cell Processor has to offer developers, but it’s not exactly a secret. Sony touted the processor as one of the most powerful in the industry and after witnessing Uncharted 2, the idea of it only getting bigger and better from here on out speaks volumes on what purchaser’s of the PlayStation 3 can expect as gamers.

Naughty Dog has been one of the more outstanding developers of this generation, so to think they’re going to top their last release is just mind blowing. I can’t wait!
