Sony’s Holiday figures increase 76% in December

Announced tonight during the Sony conference at CES 2010, Kaz Hirai has revealed that the PlayStation 3 has sold a console record number of units throughout the month of December.

Many predicted that Sony’s Holiday figures would be pretty decent given the price cut and bundles on offer, however, I’m sure nobody expect the number to end up being 3.8 MILLION consoles world wide in the month of December. To be honest, I’m a little shocked myself. I expected somewhere around 2.2 million or so.

All that’s left is to wait and see what numbers Microsoft throws out in regards to its December figures, but chances are, Sony just closed that market share gap immensely.

Congratulations Sony.

  1. 1.7 million consoles in N.A.

IIRC, the previous record for N.A. monthly PS3 sales was about 800k. Congrats to Sony for the huge turnaround over the past year.

  2. … wow this is ridiculous LMAO

  3. Wow, that’s a lot of ps3’s. 😀

  4. The PS3 has been closing the gap all year even though 360 US sales have been greater, worldwide, the PS3 has managed to be around almost 500,000 units ahead each month since it’s price cut…so I expect this to be around one-million units ahead.

  5. Well since these numbers are the five weks including Black Friday and they’re all of North America, expect December NPD (still five weeks) to be around 1.3 million PS3’s, 1.7 million Xbox 360’s and 2.5 million Wii’s. Yep, PS3 will be in last place again (in the US, not worldwide)

  6. I don’t think sony’s success can be purely attributed to themselves. A lot of people are making a switch to them from xbox. I was one of them

  7. Good points, I think I will definitely subscribe! I’ll go and read some more! What do you see the future of this being?
