Atlus has confirmed that there is no Persona 5 Royal PS5 upgrade path for players who already own the game on the PS4. This may come as a bummer to existing owners because current-gen upgrades have become a norm for last-gen games but nearly two years into the PS5’s lifecycle, Atlus probably doesn’t see a reason to make that offer.
Persona 5 Royal PS5 will come with all existing DLC
“We are sorry, but there are no products for purchasers of Persona 5 Royal for PlayStation 4,” reads a rough translation of an FAQ published on the game’s website (via ResetEra). “We would appreciate it if you purchase Persona 5 Royal for PlayStation 5 when you play on the PlayStation 5.”
Players can, of course, simply pop their PS4 disc into the PS5 and play Persona 5 Royal via backward compatibility but if you’re looking to grab all the DLC and play the native PS5 version then you’ll need to fork out some cash and pay the full price. Alongside its PS5 release, Persona 5 Royal is also headed to Xbox and PC platforms for the first time.
