Splinter Cell drew inspiration from Uncharted franchise

Despite not being able to check out Splinter Cell: Conviction if you’re a single-console owner (PlayStation), it’s great news to hear that one of Sony’s first-party development teams were such a big influence to the title. According to Patrick Redding in the latest issue of OXM, the team behind Conviction drew a lot of inspiration from the Uncharted franchise.

“It’s safe to say that we drew inspiration from a lot of different sources – both in games and out of games,” Redding explained.

“We paid attention to everything from Riddick to Max Payne. Obviously we took a good, heavy look at the way Uncharted works too. It’s not just about production value, a lot of it is looking, at the lowest level, what the player is going to spend his time doing.”

This isn’t too surprising considering the critical acclaim that Uncharted has received over the last five months. When you’re winning Game of the Year after Game of the Year award, other developers are going to start turning their heads and taking notice. Hopefully, Splinter Cell: Conviction does eventually make its way over to the PS3, but right now, it’s unlikely.

I came in here expecting to read up on an article that would get me interested in Splinter Cell because it draws inspiration from Uncharted but I leave knowing that it’s an Xbox 360 exclusive. Thanks for ruining my dreams!

This is why Uncharted 2 is game of the year, on a technical feat as well as gameplay feat XD. BTW Splinter Cell: Conviction looks really really appealing to me even through i’m not a big fan of the 360.

  6. who wouldn’t be influenced, Uncharted 2’s pacing is perfect. I played Conviction demo on my friends 360 and seriously it was a let down, no wonder its getting low review scores all around

Its a really good game, even though i’m pro Ps3, Splinter Cell: Conviction is a worthy purchase even though its not on Ps3.

  10. Im sad splinter cell isnt on ps3 as i enjoyed all the ones before. splinter cell games were never game of the year style games but i always enjoyed them all the same. Hopefuly it will come to the ps3 soon.

  11. It’s good to know that UC2 made such an impact among devs. I’d really want to get my hands on Conviction cuz I want to turn on my 360 for at least this game (and Alan Wake) for 2010
