There comes a time when confidence about your product can turn into delusion and false hope. That seems to be the case in Kaz Hirai’s latest comments about the PlayStation 3 platform. While most people who follow along with video game sales can see that the PlayStation 3 will be lucky to hit 100 million sales, Kaz Hirai believes the console can not only hit that goal with ease, but that it can outsell its predecessor as well — at least, that’s what the man leading SCE is aiming for with the product.
Speaking in a recent interview with MCV, Hirai remains hopeful that PS3 can outsell the Ps2.
“The high point, looking back at our console business, has been PS2. For PS3, that is one level of success we’d like to emulate and hopefully surpass at the end of the ten-year lifecycle.”
Hirai understands that in order to achieve these goals that the company has to do a better job outside of Japan in not only promoting its product, but selling it as well. It is surely a lofty goal and while we’d love to see it achieved, reality will always prevail and we just don’t see it happening. Do you?

i realy cant see a solid reason for that not happening, the gaming industry is growing more rapidly than ewer, just last year more people decided to buy a console than any other year despite the worlds economic problems
i predict with confidence that the folowing years will look ewen better, and within the next 2-3 years the release of the new xbox and wii will help ps3 sells

It could out sell the xbox 360 but not the PS2, no way!
