One of the criticisms Sony received when it released the PlayStation 3 was that the console was too difficult to develop for. In fact, most blamed Sony for not doing enough as the console manufacture to aid developers in being able to deliver a much more refined and polished product. However, Sony is not going to allow that to happen as the company continues to push 3D technology onto the industry. In fact, Sony has set up an actual 3D Technology Center with its main focus being able to help developers better implement the technology into games.
This center was created back in February within the Sony Pictures Studio and Kaz Hirai, SCE Boss, believes it will help push the technology into homes at much more rapid rate. The center is also open to all developers and Hirai hopes they’ll take advantage of it in order to ease them into the process of delivering high-quality 3D gaming to PlayStation 3 owners. Considering the amount of titles scheduled to release in 3D, I’d say a lot of development teams are taking this help and utilizing it within their own products.
“The 3D Technology Center is not just for Sony,” Hirai told MCV. “We will share the expertise that we have developed over the years. This is to make sure we are playing our part to drive mass adoption of 3D, not just for Sony but as an industry.”
As someone who bought a 3DTV this past weekend, this is great news on all fronts. It’s very rare that early adopters receive the large end of the stick, but if this support continues to play out, I’ll feel a lot more confident with my purchase.
I feel that they are doing ok with the task of releasing 3D content on the PS3 in game format but are failing in the Blu-Ray movies I can’t find 1 3D movie anywhere . I did a review on Motor Storm 3D Rift on my youtube channel just click on my name to be taken there enjoy & nice article .
