In unsurprising news, 2K Games has confirmed that its 1940s thriller, L.A. Noire, will be delayed until 2011. Of course, this isn’t going to come as a shock to anyone, but we figured we’d report on it anyways. As many of you know, L.A. Noire is an ambitious title from developer Team Bondi and features over 20,000 pages of actual script.
Speaking at an earnings call last night, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick confirmed the news:
“Every time we push the envelope creatively, it takes a while. In this particular instance, I’m not going to disclose all the advancements, they’re pretty extraordinary, they are complex and worth waiting for.”
“Equally, we do try to pick the right marketing window. That is important. One of the things we’re proud of around here is we’ve extended the marketing window. We’ve shown the market if you put something fantastic out people will come out for it. That’s for pretty much year round.”
“That said, we do want to be mindful of what the competition is doing and we don’t want to stack up a release unnecessarily. These are expensive products. One of the things we found with Red Dead to our happiness is we were able to crowd out some of the competition because the best title in the market won the day.”
While this may be disappointing for those anticipating the game, there is a silver lining and that lining is your pockets. Considering how many great title are scheduled to release from now to the end of 2010, it’s a blessing to know that 2011 is already stocking up on some killer games, right?
So CoD is once again delaying games? Anyways it’s good that the devs will have more time to polish the game even further.
What? CoD has nothing to do with the delay.
Wasn’t this game already going to release in 2011? That’s what I thought, at least. Ah well. Can’t wait to see more on this game. 8)
