LittleBigPlanet 2 may see a delay

One of the most anticipated titles this Holiday season and definite contender for Game of the Year is the sequel to Media Molecule’s hit success, LittleBigPlanet. However, with LittleBigPlanet 2 currently running in closed betas, there is rumor and speculation surfacing that the title may be delayed until 2011 instead of its November 16th release date. Of course, the delay would more than likely have nothing to do with the actual software, but more so the crowded Holiday season ahead.

Though Sony has been tight-lipped about this rumor and has given the standard response of: “We don’t comment on speculation and rumor,” it goes without saying that this may be turning into an ugly reality for fans of the franchise.

PS3gen.fr was the first to report this rumor yesterday and since then, certain Japanese retailers and European retailers have changed its release date to 2011 instead of November 16th.

To be honest, this would be a lot more shocking if Sony wasn’t preparing to launch Gran Turismo 5 this Holiday season as well. Of course, with a myriad of blockbuster titles also coming out in November and late October, it may prove smart to hold off until early 2011 for release. Then again, LittleBigPlanet 2 seems like the perfect stocking stuffer for families this Holiday as well.

How do you guys think this one is going to play out?

  1. I really hope these rumors are false.

  2. I hate games always getting delayed because of these F***ING ‘blockbuster’ games! If developers dont think they can get good sales because of the stupid high selling games like COD, COD and COD then dont even bother saying it will come out at the end of the year because you always chicken out and let COD have all of the sales for themselves and encourage Activision to keep releasing COD over and over and over and over again until they decide to milk something else to death!
This will keep happening until developers stand up to Activision and refuse to surrender all of the sales to them.

  3. I really hope this is fake, lbp2 is a blockbuster title and if it doesn’t come out around the holidays it may be forgotten about by some casual gamers and parents.

  4. lol #2 needs to calm down and people still put games out and no matter how much people by cod if they still bring out lbp2 im still going to get it and the other games that i want in November cod cant kill sales forever and its not like people are buying 20 copies of cod for them self

  5. Well, I wouldn’t mind if it gets delayed. It’s hard for me to afford 3 new games in the same month (Little Big Planet 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom).

  6. the extra time could benifit lbp2s dewelopment, so i realy dont mind

  7. I doubt that it’ll be delayed for 2 reasons.

    1. They already confirmed it will come out this year, and I’m sure they won’t go back on that.

    2. Christmas is the perfect time for it’s release. It’s an E10 rated game, so it’s a perfect gift for all the kiddies out there, especially since Move launched. I don’t see any reason why they would miss out on this opportunity. It’s not like all the kids are going to want GT5, or the parents are going to buy GT5 for their kids.

  8. I hope it is, saves me money.

  9. I agree O-EXTRA.

  10. E10 rated game, near every childs favorite holiday, a clusterfuck of well deserved hype being build up for it, yep it’s true holiday release date is bad.

  11. It will be stupid if they delay it as its a family game and the second quarter will be the best bet for it to move the games off the shelves as well as selling consoles alongside with them
