According to Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, Duke Nukem Forever “dances on the line of decency” and is probably going to be a problem for rating boards such as PEGI and ESRB. This came just before Gearbox showed off a new trailer for the once thought to be shovelware in London this morning. Apparently, the trailer was so over the top and extreme that Pitchford asked the audience not to film it so it wouldn’t result in “Take-Two being punished for their creativity.”
Honestly, hearing something like this is just going to make people want the game even more. Duke Nukem has always been one of the most badass icons in gaming and it looks like Gearbox is ready to take him to that next level. Those in attendance reported the trailer featured bare breasts, strippers, a ton of swearing, the word ‘f***ing’ in huge letters and a giant alien getting slammed in the genitals by Duke. Furthermore, the trailer included g-strings, buttocks and stripper poles; not to mention Duke being pleasured by two chicks at once (something we’d all do with a million dollars /Office Space).
It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how the ESRB and PEGI rating boards eventually responds to this title. It sounds as though unless Gearbox cuts a lot of it back, it’s going to be very hard for the game to get approved for release. However, I think this is one title that wouldn’t be hindered by a movie-related NC-17 rating. What do you guys think?
I hate to say it but I imagine that the content will be cut. From my knowledge both Sony and Microsoft are against adult rated games (Manhunt 2 comes to mind, as well as Sony cutting some parts out of Heavy Rain). It’s a shame though because I’d like to see Duke Nukem go all out with it.
If it plays and looks like a more ober the top Borderlands than I’ll check it out.
