TotalPlayStation recently had a rather long sit down with Dana Jan, Director from Ready at Dawn Studios, and one of the topics of discussion was whether or not Kinect could offer a similar of better augmented reality experience than the PlayStation Move. According to Jan, augmented reality isn’t really viable through Kinect due to the latency issues the peripheral offers, however, Jan does believe that Sony’s Move is the best opportunity to enjoy that style of gaming.
I think the latency and how long it takes for the system to interpret the video footage, process it, generate the skeleton for your character, and then kick it back out is too long. It’s like 1/8 of a second. I don’t think you can control any game well with that kind of delay.
To you and I, 1/8th of a second probably doesn’t seem like that long of a gap. In fact, it’s pretty small in terms of time when you really think about it. However, when you really want to get technical, 1/8th of a second could change a lot in the history books. I haven’t had the chance to check out Kinect, but all of the videos shown have definitely displayed latency issues that wouldn’t make the product very enjoyable for myself, so I really have no interest in it.
Do you guys think that 1/8th second delay is enough to ruin the gaming experience or no?
I’ve seen Kinect do worse than one eighth of a second.
i’d just like having a trigger other than my voice “pew pew” or my naked index finger if i was to play an augmented reality shooter.
i gues 1/8 of a second is Kinects fastest speed, because the gameplay fottahe ive seen shows a loot longer delays
but the reason i beliewe Kinect is going to be the next hd-dvd is because it is unable to accruatly mark and hold together a skeleton
WABAM! it lituraly breackes youre avatars neck and lims
@the psu team
fix the comenting sistem
That squiggly red line means something guys….
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the commenting system.
I think the pointless rubbish games and lack of ability to move freely on a map and the glitches seen on videos and high price point and the fact that it’s on one of the most unreliable consoles of all time ruin it enough. Add in the fact that Microsoft has terrible quality control on releases and you’ve got yourself an epic fail.
@The Dean
i read my comments before posting, and sometimes they still come out with double leters or with a nother senders name, i know my english could use some work, but im not that much of a badd speler
There are no issues with the comment section. Nobody else is showing double letters when there shouldn’t be and as far as I can see, everyone else is posting comments as intended.
If you’re the only one it’s effecting, chances are, it isn’t the comment section’s issue.
