In a surprising turn of events, Harmonix has indicated that all future downloadable content for Rock Band will only work with Rock Band 3 and is not backwards compatible with all other versions of the game. This is shocking considering one of the best selling points the franchise ever had was the ability to buy one of their games and be treated to a boatload worth of content on a weekly basis.
Despite this exclusion, Rock Band network songs are still compatible with RB1/2/LEGO/Green Day, but without the officially licensed products, does it really matter? Apparently, the reason for this change is “due to the new authoring standards, inclusion of new instruments, new lighting / venue cues, etc,” a Harmonix representative told JoyStiq.
While the party bus had to pit stop eventually, it just kind of sucks that you’re being somewhat forced to upgrade to Rock Band 3 to continue to get the same presidential treatment you were once used to.
