Gran Turismo’s A.I. is still a bit buggy

Sony has the reviews for Gran Turismo 5 embargoed until release day, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from being flooded with trailers, screenshots and opinions of those who have already gotten their hands on the game. One of those early players is the Official PlayStation Magazine and they’ve expressed concern over the issue the A.I. clearly has in the game and how it doesn’t take away from the fact that this is the greatest racing title of all time.

When discussing the A.I., the magazine states: “Curious to test my virtual opponents’ skill, I slam on the anchors and my immediate followers waste little time in powering past. But just as things are looking promising, carnage ensues,” the feature continues.

“Even though my car is easily avoidable, parked on the side of a wide straight, I watch the rear view hoping the next batch of rapidly approaching cars do the smart thing and veer around. They don’t, and in that fraction of a second, the impact reverberates beyond the DualShock3.

“Gran Turismo 5’s AI remains a long way short of passing the Turing Test.”

From what I’ve experienced, this is a common issue amongst most racers and hopefully one day developers in general can work that kink out a bit better. However, until then, we’ll just have to deal with the greatest simulation racer of all time — not too shabby, right? You can expect a highly detailed and critical breakdown from our very own, Deadpool, once he takes the game to task later this week.

  1. Good thing is that this could be fixed with a minor update, unlike other GTs in the past for previous consoles such as GT3 and 4.

  2. you know… games usualy hawe a HARD mode
and usualy people dont play on that mode straight away
so im realy not consirned about this cuz the guy probably just got the game, after all it isnt released yet and i hawent found a single rewiew for it, yet

  3. Well, all GT titles have had this problem and in fact most racers I’ve played. I’m sure it’s possible they might fix it with a patch but I doubt it and I think it will not break the experience.

  4. Most people haven’t played Ferrari/Supercar Challange – but the A.I in both games was impressive. You actually *could* park in the middle of the racing line and they’d all go around you.

Of course it had its flaws too – very aggressive, brake testing you sometimes etc.. But still, it has been possible before, I’m surprised Polyphony still haven’t nailed it.

    Don’t think it’ll bother me though, really didn’t in GT4 either. I don’t crash/spin it much :p
