When Sony released its latest piece of technology known as the PlayStation 3, it often boasted to the public everything that the product was capable of achieving and accomplishing.Upon release, this created several unnecessary challenges for the console manufacturer in both the financial and manufacturing department. This is one of the things Sony would like to avoid upon launching its next product, the PlayStation Portable 2.
Speaking with Engadget, SCEA boss Jack Tretton makes it perfectly clear that the company wants to deliver a great piece of technology, but at the same time avoid all of the challenges it faced when releasing the PlayStation 3. However, he also makes note that sometimes these road blocks pop up out of no where regardless of what you do.
“I think we’ve been about reaching beyond the status quo and delivering technology that people couldn’t even envision, and with that comes risk. I think PlayStation 3 is the biggest technological achievement we’ve ever had, and it wasn’t without challenges both financially and from a production standpoint.
“I think at the end of the day it was worth it, but I think it certainly made for some difficult challenges. I think we’d look to avoid repeating that, but when you’re dealing with new technology there are always road blocks.”
By this time, it’s becoming quickly obvious that Sony is going to have to sell the PSP2 at a loss. It’s almost inevitable. There is no way they can comfortably break into this next generation of hand held gaming by pricing itself out of the market entirely. Unfortunately, this will probably create a financial challenge like the one they’re trying to avoid, but by gaining market share in return, I think it will be for the best.

im cinda sceptical, but i gues if they manage to sell ps3 sistems whith a $200+ loss and got this far, than im sure they gona get a simular or posibly better result whith the ngp
