Test Drive Unlimited 2 Owners get First DLC Free

In what can only be considered a classy move, Atari has recognized and acknowledged the mass problems with its latest release — Test Drive Unlimited 2 — and thus is offering up its first set of premium downloadable content absolutely free. The developer has taken this route due to the length of time it has taken for a patch to be created and due to the patience fans of the franchise have displayed throughout the ordeal.

“We really appreciate your patience in this matter and we would like to announce that we will be making the first premium DLC for the game free for everybody as a way of saying thank you,” the developer said in a statement.

Of course, the premium DLC includes the ability to unlock two new vehicles which probably should have been included originally anyways, but that’s not the point. While this is a move worth applauding, it’s also another example of a situation that should have never happened in the first place.

There is going to be a time when gamers grow tired of this unnecessary bullshit in which they’re used as beta testers for products that obviously aren’t finished yet. Instead of doing such, the developer should put its money into an actual Q&A team and figure this stuff out beforehand. Obviously things slip by, but some things are inexcusable to miss.

In case you want the break down, here is what the patch fixes.

  • Logging into the game has been improved
  • Once into the game the online network experience is now much more stable in all areas
  • Save games no longer corrupt
  • Existing corrupted save games will be repaired in many cases
  • Friends lists are now populated
  • Invites now work correctly
  • Clubs have been brought back online
  • Exploits to gain money have been fixed
  • Casino access has been improved
  • Players will no longer lose money because of the Casino bug
