Last year in April, Bungie and Activision announced a blockbuster deal that would last a decade as Activision became the official publisher of everything Bungie developed within the gaming industry. As many of you know, Bungie is the famous developer behind the Halo franchise for Microsoft’s Xbox 360, so this was a pretty big deal.
Unfortunately for gamers, there hasn’t been much else announced from Activision and Bungie since that date and very little is known as to what to expect from their first title together as well. However, Bungie has gone on record stating that they’re very content with the situation that they’re in and that Activision has done a great job understanding that they’re the publisher and not the developer in this relationship.
“Not only were we excited about the contract that we were able to get with Activision but they seem really committed to being hands-off,” Bungie composer Marty O’Donnell told IndustryGamers.
“They really seem committed to agreeing that they are the publishers and they need to support in all the ways publishers support [titles] and they were looking for developers that were completely self-sufficient essentially – except maybe we need some money once in a while – but self-sufficient in terms of not needing to depend on them for production or development or some of these other things.”
While this is all great and everyone loves candy too, it’s about time Bungie displays what they’re working on and what gamers are waiting for. I’m sure nobody really cares if these two mega-companies are getting along or not, we’d much rather prefer to see the end result that this partnership is created upon.
Enough with the talk Bungie — deliver the goods.
