New screenshots for Risen 2: Dark Waters showcase dueling swords and giant crabs

Deep Silver has released a batch of new screenshots for upcoming RPG Risen 2, showcasing colorful and vibrant environments as well as sword combat and giant creatures.

Developer Piranha Bytes promises a fantastic new pirate themed RPG adventure, learning from much of the feedback received from fans after the release of Gothic 3 on PC and the original Risen.

Speaking with Eurogamer in a recent interview, Risen 2 designer Michael Hoge spoke on some of the improvements going into Risen 2 and why it will be a fresh experience for role-playing gamers.

“Risen, especially the console version, was done quite poorly,” said Hoge.

“It was our first console project. With Risen our main goal was to produce a role-playing game in time and in budget.”

“The reason why Risen 2 is going to be better is because simply that we have done multi-platform development right from the start,” he continued.

According to the developer, more effort has gone into increasing the visual quality through motion capture animation and providing new dungeon experiences throughout multiple massive islands, each the size of the original island in Risen.

Currently Risen 2: Dark Waters has only been announced for Xbox 360 and PC, however brand manager Daniel Oberlerchner confirmed there is potential for a PlayStation 3 version. No release date has been given. Check out all the new screenshots here.
