“white knight chronicles, i dug the awesome sort of celtic music with japanese vocals.” – xero135

Best Xbox 360 Game

Winner: Mass Effect 2

Just because we’re PlayStation University doesn’t mean that our community isn’t well-rounded. Many at the forums own rival systems and enjoy them for what they are – quality games consoles. As you can see, Mass Effect 2 was the runaway favorite, a great sign for PS3-only gamers looking to get their hands on the game next month. However, Reach fans were a bit more vocal in the forum thread.

“Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 2.” – One-Shot

“Halo: Reach gets my vote here.” – Kwesnoth

“I haven’t played ME2, waiting for the PS3 version, but I did play Reach…and it was the awesome. Best Halo I ever played.” – unicron7

“I voted other. The only 360 exclusive I played and loved was Alan Wake. Most over looked GOTY for sure!” – daevv

Best PSP Game

Winner: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker/God of War: Ghost of Sparta (tie)

Say what you will about the volume of games produced for the PSP, but there’s no denying that the overall quality of this year’s top titles was fantastic. Specifically, it was all about fitting epic games in a handheld package, as seen in the games listed in the above poll.

“Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Holy crap that game owned my life for weeks. […] Easily the most time I’ve ever devoted to a PSP title and the only time I’ve played the PSP in preference to gaming on the PS3.” – Deadpool

“Birth by Sleep. Awesome, awesome, awesome game. […] Easily one of the best games I’ve played in the PSP and probably the best KH.” – Thorzilla

“Other, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.” – Reneid Klein

“Since I only play 1 or 2 PSP games a year I usually go for RPGs. The one I played this year was Lunar: Silver Star Harmony. Charming game from yesteryear that I loved playing through again and again on my Sega CD.” – daevv

Best PS3 Game

Winner: God of War III

As far as exclusives go, 2010 was a bit light for the PS3. However, what did come out was fantastic stuff – Heavy Rain was rewarded handsomely for daring to go where no other game had ever gone, God of War III delivered the epic experience that fans had come to expect, and Gran Turismo 5 confirmed its existence by finally releasing.

“Heavy Rain is the best game I’ve played all year and the best game on Playstation 3 period.” – TRF

“GOW3. What an epic ending to an outstanding trilogy.” – Kopkiwi

“Heavy Rain was great! Rarely does my wife watch me play any games but both of us wanted to catch The Origami Killer! Any game that does that is GOTY for sure!” – daevv

“heavy rain, best game i played in a while” – xero135

“I’m going with God of War 3. The gameplay was amazing, the story was good and it was just a blast to play. Easily GOTY for me with Heavy Rain a close second.” – SonyJunkie

“Heavy Rain. Hands down. JAAASON!” – blueblur19

Overall Game of the Year

Winner: Red Dead Redemption

The PS3 and 360 only had a few high-profile exclusives between them, but there was a lot of great stuff to play on the multiplatform front. Red Dead Redemption, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Fallout: New Vegas were all some of the biggest timesinks this year. In the end, though, it was the Wild West that won.

“Red Dead Redemption! I expected GTA on horses, which it was, but it was way better than any GTA…..except maybe Vice City” – daevv

“God almighty that was a hard choice, so many great games. But when it comes down to it, RDR got my vote.” – Kwesnoth

“RDR is my favourite” – Halfdeaf

“Red Dead Redemption” – Nick

“I had to vote for Heavy Rain, it was such a great and unique experience.” – SnowHawk

“I’m just going to say Super Mario Galaxy 2.” – Matt

“ME2. Knew from day one it was going to be goty.” – One-Shot

“Heavy Rain, easily. Never before have I been so connected to the characters in a game. […] This game is a perfect 10/10 for me. It’s a great step towards what can be an amazing genre and medium of storytelling.” – TRF

“From those that I’ve played, however, I have to give it to God of War III. […] One thing that stands out and shows Xbox 360 gamers: This is what you’re missing out on.” – SchaffinOSX

  1. No Super Mario Galaxy 2 love 🙁

  2. Great article. Sucks I didn’t have internet at the time to contribute though 🙁

  3. I really liked this article. It feels like the forum members made this article and it is cool to read what the forums members said, including me.

We need to get more threads from forums onto the front page which is what you said you wanted to do. What comes to my head is like if we are talking about a new game that is announced and everyone starts talking about it, what it should be, etc, I think that should be put on the front page. Like your guys did with the Elder Scrolls wishlist but quote things that forum members say to make it feel more integrated. Just my idea to maybe help.

  4. Great article man, nice work 8)
