It’s today been confirmed that Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld will not launch in America and Europe in 2011.
Sony Corporation Executive VP Kaz Hirai made the announcement to reporters in Tokyo this morning, according to an AP report, also confirming that the device will launch in Japan before Christmas.
Hirai shrugged off any suggestion of the timing being a delay, noting Sony’s aim to offer solid launch title lists for each region, and also dismissed questions from reporters asking whether Nintendo’s recent price-cut of its 3DS handheld would mean a mark-down for Vita.
“We packed so much into the device and made it very affordable,” he said. “There is no need to lower the price just because somebody else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to lower their price.”
