MGS: Rising is now Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance; developed by Platinum Games

As the title says, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance exists, and Platinum Games (Vanquish, Bayonetta) are at the helm of development. Kojima Productions is now producing the title, with Hideo Kojima retaining his involvement in overlooking the development.

Very, very little information was learned about the Metal Gear Solid: Rising (original title) after it’s reveal at E3 2009. I’m assuming Kojima Productions thought gamers lost interest or simply just forgot about it due to the lack of information ever since it’s announcement, so a re-reveal seemed like a good idea. Almost two years later, an official re-reveal for the game was shown at the Video Game Awards this past weekend, and it looks pretty crazy. Check it:

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

It looks like the free-form cutting mechanics still remain as precise as ever, allowing enemies to be cut into detailed little bits for all of you homicidal maniacs out there. Even though it isn’t a standard Metal Gear game, it’s premise looks fun, and if Platinum Games’ track record is something to go by, this title should be wild and packed with entertainment.

No release date was hinted at, but assumptions lead to a late 2012 window.
