Nintendo’s Switch 2 release date could be sooner rather than later, as a new press release for an upcoming game has teased a new iteration of the handheld console.
PlayStation LifeStyle received a press release for the upcoming video game Ruffy and the Riverside that included the line: “The lovingly hand-drawn platformer is rolling out Q1 2025 on PC (Steam), Xbox One & Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and…Nintendo Switch(es)!”
“Nintendo Switch(es)” implies that the platformer will release on multiple versions of the console. While there are already multiple different iterations of the Switch such as the OLED, the same can also be said for the PS5 with its Pro and Slim versions.
Nintendo Switch 2 release date rumor suggests March 2025 launch
A recent rumor posted on the Chinese social media site Weibo also claimed that the Switch 2 would be released in March 2025 following a January 2025 reveal. The alleged leaker has a track record of correct claims, such as posting the date for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s third trailer.
A March 2025 release date would be sooner than many were expecting. However, the original Switch launched in March 2017, so its successor could follow a similar release pattern. Nintendo also wouldn’t need as many months to promote the Switch 2’s launch, given that many have been waiting for a new version of the handheld for years.
