Obsidian and South Park team up for a new RPG

Game Informer’s cover story in their latest issue announces a surprisingly ambitious project with an unexpected team up.

A fully fledged 2-D South Park role-playing game is being crafted by Obsidian Entertainment, creators of some of the most successful Western RPG’s to date (Fallout series, KOTOR 2). The idea came straight from Matt Stone and Trey Parker themselves, and they contacted Obsidian to work with them.

The game will feature a visual style almost identical to the show, and the main protagonist is a silent, fully-customizable character. A good batch of details including the story’s premise, combat details, script writing, and Matt and Trey’s involvement have been posted online by NeoGAF member flashbandit16. As a huge fan of RPG’s and South Park, this title has got me pretty giddy. Obsidian is well-known for their great writing in their games, and we have the creators of one of the most successful animated shows of all time heavily involved, so my hopes are sky high for this one.

I’m eating a bowl of Cartman’s famous chili and watching this interview with the CEO of Obsidian posted on GI’s website in anticipation.
